Transferring from Another Canadian Jurisdiction
A pharmacist or pharmacy technician registered in another jurisdiction may apply for registration in Prince Edward Island. The applicant is eligible to be placed into an equivalent register in which the applicant is registered in another jurisdiction.The requirements for registration are as follows:
Application form and fees
Complete and submit the Initial Pharmacist Application form. All documentation must be received by the PEI College of Pharmacists in its original form or a notarized copy. Original documents may be brought the PEI College of Pharmacists office to be copied by our staff and then the originals returned to the applicant.
Letter of Standing
Applicants are required to submit a letter of standing from any and all regulatory bodies for which they held a registration. Please contact each regulatory body to request that the PEI College of Pharmacists letter of standing form be completed and forwarded directly to the PEI College of Pharmacists office.
Proof of Identity
Submit proof of identity with either, 1) a passport or 2) a birth certificate or canadian citizenship certificate and a piece of government issued photo identification.
Criminal Record
Submit the original results of a criminal record background check with a vulnerable sector check completed within one year of the application. See Criminal Record Checks for more details.
Professional Liability Insurance
Provide proof of current personal, professional liability insurance in accordance with section 21 of the Profession of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technician Regulations.
English Language Proficiency
Applicants must meet English Language Proficiency requirements in accordance with the PEI College of Pharmacists Policy on English Language Proficiency for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians or the NAPRA Language Proficiency Requirements for Licensure as a Pharmacist in Canada.
All applicants who have received an accredited Canadian or American university degree in Pharmacy will not be required to undergo further testing unless a trigger suggests that a test for language proficiency is necessary.
Jurisprudence Exam
Successfully complete the PEI jurisdprudence exam.
**Note** Pharmacists applying for the Part A Register, who will be working in a retail pharmacy and therefore required to bill to PEI Pharmacare, will need to be registered with PEI Pharmacare for billing purposes. This is not a requirement of registration with the PEI College of Pharmacists. It is the registrant's responsibility ensure the above forms are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
