Pharmacists who hold a current certificate of registration in another Canadian jurisdiction may apply for registration in the Special Class for a period of 45 days. The Special Class of registration is intended to allow pharmacists to practice in PEI for a limited time and specific purpose, which may include, for example:
1. practicing as a locum pharmacist for a specified period of time
2. covering pharmacist services in the event of an emergency
The requirements for registration are as follows:
Application form and fees
Complete and submit the Pharmacist Special Registration Form. All documentation must be received by the PEI College of Pharmacy in its original form or a notarized copy. Original documents may be brought the PEI College of Pharmacy office to be copied by our staff and then the originals returned to the applicant.
Letter of Standing
Applicants are required to submit a letter of standing from any and all regulatory bodies for which they held a registration. Please contact each regulatory body to request that the PEI College of Pharmacy letter of standing form be completed and forwarded directly to the PEI College of Pharmacy office.
Proof of Identity
Submit proof of identity with either, 1) a passport or 2) a birth certificate or canadian citizenship certificate and a piece of government issued photo identification.
Submit the original results of a criminal record background check with a vulnerable sector check completed within three months of the application. See Criminal Record Checks for more details.
Professional Liability Insurance
Provide proof of current personal, professional liability insurance in accordance with section 21 of the Profession of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technician Regulations.
**Note** Pharmacists applying for registration in the Pharmacist Special Register, who will be working in a retail pharmacy and therefore required to bill to PEI Pharmacare, will need to be registered with PEI Pharmacare for billing purposes.
