Pharmacy technician student registration

A student enrolled in a pharmacy technician program may complete practice experience in PEI if he/she is registered as a pharmacy technician student.
The student registration year begins on September 15th. Student registration must be renewed annually if a student wishes to complete practice experience or work in PEI.

Requirements

The requirements for Pharmacy Technician Student Registration are set out in the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations

Unless otherwise specified, all documentation must be received by the PEI College of Pharmacy in its original form or as a notarized copy. Original documents may be presented to the PEI College of Pharmacy office to be copied by staff.

Application Form

Student applicants may complete the application form online.

Proof of Identity

Applicants must provide proof of identity with either a valid passport OR a birth certificate or Canadian citizenship certificate and a piece of photo identification.

Enrollment in a Pharmacy Technician Program

Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in a pharmacy technician program in the form of a letter from the educational institution where the applicant is enrolled OR current transcripts.

Letters of Standing

Applicants are required to submit a letter of standing from any and all regulatory bodies where they have held a registration. Please contact each regulatory body to request that the PEI College of Pharmacy to request that the PEICP letter of standing form be completed and forwarded directly to the PEI College of Pharmacy office.

Professional Liability Insurance

The professional liability insurance policy must be in accordance with section 40 of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations. The policy certificate may be uploaded to the applicant’s registrant profile. If the policy certificate is not immediately available, a paid receipt showing the expiry date of the policy and the policy amount is accepted in the interim.

Criminal Record Check

The PEI College of Pharmacy Criminal Record Check Policy requires that applicants submit the results of an Extended Police Information Check (EPIC) that has been completed within 3 months of application. An EPIC is valid for a period of 5 years once on file with the College providing there has not been a break in registration. At the discretion of the College, registrants may be selected to provide an additional EPIC before their expiration date.

The College has partnered with MyBackCheck.com to provide criminal record checks for registration with PEICP. Select the link below to request a record check.

Please ensure that the criminal record check you submitted with your application for provisional registration is up to date.

Preceptor / Site Approval Form

Students are required to have a preceptor to supervise practice experience. Both the preceptor and site must be approved by the PEI College of Pharmacy prior to the commencement of any practice experience, including practice sites assigned to the student by their educational institution. The preceptor/site approval form can be found here: Preceptor Site Approval Form. Both the student and the preceptor(s) will be directed to complete the form, which can be emailed to registrations@pepharmacists.ca.  Once the application has been approved by the College, both the student and preceptor will be notified. A new preceptor/site approval form must be submitted to and approved by the PEICP each time a student changes to a new preceptor or site.

Fees

Applicants will access a fee invoice through the registrant profile. Applications are not considered complete until all required documentation is received and fees are paid. Fees are non-refundable.

When the application has been processed, the applicant will receive e-mail notification of registration as a pharmacy technician student.
